Re: vRA Distributed Deployment Certificates
I am referring to followingKB article from VMware. http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2062108
It talks about template to be used of MS Certificate Authority server. However i am not able to find documentation about 3rd Party Certificates.
Does anyone have any experience with 3rd party certificates configuration with vRA?

Re: VRMGuestAgent on Server 2012 R2 deployed via SCCM 2012 Task Seqeunce - [info] [ssl client] Client certificate chain filenot specified
Along with the info DonaIB mentioned about TLS 1.2 you will also need to get the VRMGuestAgent 6.2.3.1690. There is a known bug with the 6.2.2 VRMGuestAgent that causes this error and the version I have mentioned gets you past that issue.

usb 3 enclosure not detected on esxi 5.5
I have ESXi 5.5 running on a Dell T20 tower. It has a few USB 3.0 ports and I hooked up a Mediasonic HDL-su3 USB 3.0 enclosure with a 4TB HDD inside. I want to add the device as a storage device to one of my VMs, but it doesn't seem to allow me to. I noticed that the xhci module wasn't installed on my host. I tried to apply ESXi 5.5 Update 3, and it installed successfully, but skipped a whole bunch of VIBs. I was able to manually install the xhci VIB file. Then I:
- went to Add Hardware and added the USB xHCI Controller to the VM
- went back to Add Hardware to select the USB device, but it was greyed out and the Information panel said "There are no USB devices available on the host,"
I tried running a lsusb and get this output:
~ # lsusb Bus 002 Device 005: ID 413c:2107 Dell Computer Corp. Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0461:4d81 Primax Electronics, Ltd Dell N889 Optical Mouse Bus 002 Device 003: ID 2109:0711 Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:8000 Intel Corp. 2109:0711 is strange. No name. Based on the above output, I ran lsusb - v. Here's the output of 2109-0711 -- it seems like this is the USB 3 controller:, but why doesn't it detect the USB? I have more info if necessary

esxi installation error: unable to connect to kickstart file
Hi,
While installing esxi, got this error on the console:
File(http://10.115.73.162/prmb-tam-dl380-12.ks.cfg) connection failed. Made 5 attempts. <urlopen error [Errno 110] Connection timed out>
I am able to download kickstart file by this url: http://10.115.73.162/prmb-tam-dl380-12.ks.cfg using firefox and chrome but while installing esxi it is giving the above mentioned error.
Any solutions?
Thanks.
Error: failed to start /etc/rc.local compatibility see "sstemctl status rc-local.service" for details
I was not getting internet to my VMware player from last month. So I installed VM tools and finally internet was active in my VM ubuntu. As internet was active, I got updates from Ubuntu for 15.10 'Wily Warewolf'. So I accepted the update, but later it never booted again after restart. Initially I got the below errors while booting:
1) Piix4_SMBus: 000:00:07.3: Host SMBus controller bus not enabledfailed to start /etc/rc.local compatibility. (resolved now)
2) Error: failed to start /etc/rc.local compatibility see "sstemctl status rc-local.service" for details
But I managed to solve issue 1 by providing solution by blacklisting i2c-piix4. But unable to resolve Issue2. Please need your immediate help in resolving the issue.
Thanks

Re: Can't download purchase
I had the same problem. I resorted to getting them on the phone, and complaining at them.
I got a fulfillment email from them that had the license key field totally blank. Buying a CAR was easier than buying a $120 piece of software.

Re: bootcamp, win7 --> win 10, activation problem with fusion
Hi,
Please refer to the latest version release note. VMware Fusion 8.0.2 Release Notes
This is a know issue for Fusion Boot Camp VM activation on Windows 10.
When you attempt to run Windows 10 Boot Camp partition, a message appears requesting reactivation
When switching between running Windows 10 natively from the Boot Camp partition and running it as a virtual machine, Windows requests reactivation. This issue occurs because Windows detects a significant difference between the actual hardware on your Mac and the hardware presented to a virtual machine.
Workaround: The first time you run a Windows 10 Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine, you need to call Microsoft's automated service to reactivate Windows. Instructions can be found in the Windows Settings app under the Activation tab. Subsequently, you must have an Internet connection to reactivate Windows after switching between native and virtual machine modes.

Re: VMware Fusion quit unexpectedly - When switching to Unity mode
Hi,
Thanks for using Fusion!
Please make sure you have installed vmware tools, and provide the following information for investigating this issue:
a. your host information, 10.10.5 or 10.11.1?
b. your guest information, win10 or win7?
Re: Can't authenticat user in the LDAP user configuration
hi victorkh
In our VIO2.0 UI, we do not pass any group attributes values to backend for validating when user click the "test user configuration" button.
There is no any dependency on group attributes with the "test user configuration". And this is why we split LDAP params into 3 parts.
I was confused with what you have described. I did some test in our env, but can not repeat your problem.
And i will continue to work on it and try to make it better if there are bugs.

Re: vCenter 6 'Empty Inventory' due to permissions
Hey Guys,
There is a easy way around this if you meet the following items:
- If you are on 6.0 u1 (I haven't tested early releases of 6.0)
- Access works in C# client but not with the web client
- Upgraded SSO from 5.x to version 6
- Used domain aliases in the past (most important)
- Also to note newly installed vcenter's will still have the same issue if you are using a existing SSO service.
To fix newly created permissions add the group or user with FQDN\USER or FQDN\GROUP not a ALIAS\*. If you have upgraded and use the find group/user and then click add you will notice it still references the domain alias.
To fix older permission you can modify the VC DB and there is a KB article for this (I can confirm this also works fine for MS SQL): VMware KB: After upgrading to VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.0 users are unable to view the inventory in the vSph…
Unable uninstall vRealize 6.1 Adapters

Re: Unable to obtain hardware information for selected machine
It's in 'all users' profile, i.e. "C:\Users\All Users\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\logs". If you are looking in the source machine, on which you have installed Converter and tried to convert as this local machine, post the worker log. If only an agent has been deployed on it - then the agent log.
Re: Migrating the vSphere 6.0 database
Migrating between DB's is never a easy task.
In the past on 5.0, I had to moved from Oracle to MS SQL and found the safest/cleanest way was to create a new vcenter and migrate the ESXi hosts and VM via disconnect and connect to the new vcenter.
Now the down side of this is you will lose information like tag, permissions, folders, etc. There is lot of powershell scripts out there that can export and restore this kinds on metadata. Another issue is VROPS and other items that is talking to your environment as these kind of services will think they are new objects and you could lose information.
However seeing as you asked about 6.0, another alternative is cross vcenter vmotions. I haven't tried this but it may work and you may not have to readd all the metadata. VMware KB: Cross vCenter Server vMotion requirements in VMware vSphere 6.0
Re: Converter Job failing trying to copy live system.
So you've got the source info, the helper deployed, and the worker connecting to it, It remains only the helper connecting to the source. The relevant logs in this case are the helper's ones. However you may not need to look for them. The required connectivity in this case is: a machine from the virtual network (where the destination VM is created) needs to access the source machine at port 22. Also the source needs password authentication enabled. You need to check virtual network routing, firewalls, and source machine's sshd settings.
I suggest you get a neighbour machine from the same destination network and try to ssh to the source machine. Once you succeed, proceed with the conversion.
